Etty Hillesum is a young Jewish woman who describes, in her diary (An Interrupted Life) and letters, her spiritual awakening and the persecutions of the Jewish people in Amsterdam, during the German occupation. This is the first of three day courses on extraordinary women (Mary Oliver on 3 June and Julian of Norwich on 14 October.) These are women who found the positivity, strength and hope to not just survive, but to grow in times of pandemic; trauma and abuse; religious and racial intolerance; and grief. As we gather to explore their stories, we will be inspired and surprised by the relevance of their writings for our lives today.
