Ammerdown Art Exhibition celebrating 50 years
Spirit of Art in Peace and Reconciliation: an Art Exhibition at Ammerdown
The Ammerdown Centre is a Sanctuary of Peace set between Frome and Radstock just off the A362. Originating as a Christian foundation to promote peace, justice, reconciliation and hope, it is now celebrating its 50th Anniversary with an Art Exhibition. A group of artists seek to reflect Ammerdown’s values in a variety of media from painting and collage to 3D work, including ceramics, digital work, poetry and music.
Curated by Frome artist Viv Meadows with Jane Eaton, she says ‘I occasionally volunteer at Ammerdown and some months ago I thought, it’s lovely to see art exhibitions here, but what about one reflecting the values of this special space?’ I put a Call Out to Frome artists café and on social media more generally, hosted a couple of site visits with Christine Clinch Lead Manager at Ammerdown, and 11 wonderful artists responded with work that communicates the plight of creation and refugees, and the wish to build peace within an increasingly fractured world.’
The Ammerdown Centre offers space away from the hustle of everyday life. Its runs creative courses such as stained glass and silver jewellery, and a variety of spiritual and well being retreats, including interfaith. The facilities can also be booked for your own meeting. It offers an inclusive and accepting atmosphere pursuing mutual understanding.
