Teresa of Avila was the Spanish founder of the Discalced Carmelites movement, devoted to intercession for the world & the pursuit of relationship with God.
She was a radical woman in an age dominated by established male power; she stuck to her principles & followed her simple ideas, despite many serious & debilitating illnesses.
Her simple books such as the “Interior Castle” chronicle the often complex & confusing spiritual life in a clear, inspiring way that still resonates today.
