Jesus as a radical nonviolent activist? His ministry, recorded in the gospels, points to numerous examples of Jesus choosing the nonviolent path, both in his teachings & his way of life. This one-day going deeper course will explore in detail how Jesus invites us to follow him on a nonviolent path, starting with everyday practices in what we think, say & do & how his invitation to you might bring out the radical in you too.
Course Leader Information:
Carolyn became the Leader of The Ammerdown Centre in 2025 from being Director of Place for Hope. She has been fascinated about the concept of peace since childhood and spent over 25 years working in the humanitarian, international development and peacebuilding sectors around the world, often in places of war, extreme poverty, repressive discrimination and exclusion of those most vulnerable. Her passion for nonviolence and peacemaking in its most holistic sense, is deeply rooted in her Christian faith and experiences around the world living and working beside people with different faiths, cultures, beliefs, worldviews and life experiences. Carolyn has qualifications in International Development, Human Rights Law & Advocacy and Conflict Transformation, and is an accredited mediator. Although Carolyn grew up in Australia, she settled back in her native UK in 2014 to focus on nurturing spaces for peace, nonviolence, and reconciliation. Carolyn loves the 4 different seasons here (& really loves snow), cycling, and time spent with God and nature on long daily walks with her dog, Pace (Italian for peace).
Martina has a passion for justice, peacemaking and nonviolence and brings many years of experience of developing, delivering and evaluating training and development programmes in the international, charity and academic sectors, including facilitating conflict transformation workshops with faith and community groups around the UK. Martina is also a Florist and a Spiritual Director, who facilitates retreats and workshops that interweaves themes of faith, nature and peace.
