Ammerdown Centre - The venue with a difference

What can Ammerdown offer you?

On the spiritual side we offer membership of a prayerful community, a life of service to others and the use, privately or with others, of a beautiful Chapel on site – and all in unspoilt rural surroundings.

We offer the opportunity for very varied work. You will help provide a core of prayer for the Centre, offering regular services for guests and fellow community members. You will contribute at times to the household side and have the opportunity of working alongside, and getting to know, the household staff. You will be able to use and develop your own interests and talents in ways which serve the Centre’s needs. You will have the pleasure of acting as host or hostess to our visitors and providing, for some, comfort and a listening ear. You will also have the chance to get to know our guests through hands-on work such as serving meals, running the bar or being the first person they meet on arrival.

On the practical side we offer free accommodation. This includes your own bedroom and the shared use of a quiet lounge, a TV room, kitchen and bathroom in one of two houses reserved for community members. Food is also provided free of charge. If cooked meals are prepared for visitors staying at the Centre, then the food will be in the form of proper cooked meals. If there are no visitors, then the community members and volunteers residing on site are provided with food so that they can cook their own meals if they wish.

As a resident community member, you will be expected to work one weekend in two as well as during the week. In practice, this means that you will get a free weekend every two weekends and also one day off every week.
