JEWISH-CHRISTIAN STUDY WEEKEND

- Jews, Christians and God

Friday 27 August to Sunday 29 August

Residential: £185, Non-residential: £123*

Please arrive by 6pm on Friday.  Course ends with lunch on Sunday.

This annual weekend and the study week that follows aim to take topics relevant to both Christians and Jews and consider them from both faith perspectives. Scriptural themes, as well as social and ethical issues, are explored. Academic rigour, combined with energetic discussion, study groups and socialising, fosters mutual appreciation of the treasures of each other’s cherished faith traditions.

The theme for this year’s weekend will be ‘Jews, Christians and God’. Both Christians and Jews proclaim belief in one God, but what does that oneness mean? Can a single Being encompass both absolute justice and boundless love, fill all creation but be totally other? In a spirit of openness, we will explore diverse views of God both in our two traditions and in our own lives.

Rabbi Mark Solomon was appointed in 2009 as the first Interfaith Consultant for Liberal Judaism. He also works as lecturer in Talmud at Leo Baeck College, and minister of the Edinburgh Liberal Jewish Community. He is Co-Chairman of the London Society of Jews and Christians, and serves as Trustee of the Interfaith Alliance UK, the Scriptural Reasoning Society and the Ammerdown Centre.

Sr Margaret Shepherd is a Sister of Sion. Formerly the Director of The Council of Christians and Jews, she continues her involvement in Christian Jewish relations and teaches the Bible. She is a Member of the R.C. Bishops’ Committee for Catholic Jewish Relations and the Executive Committee for the London Society of Jews and Christians. She too is a Trustee of the Ammerdown Centre.

Vegetarian food and fish will be served throughout the course.

* A 5% discount will be given to people booking for both the Study Weekend and the Study Week ( Jewish-Christian study week 2010  30 August to 3 September). In addition, Ammerdown is offering the special rate of £45 for Dinner Bed and Breakfast on the Sunday evening for those staying over in order to take part in the Study Week.
