JEWISH-CHRISTIAN STUDY WEEK -

Hotlines to Heaven: the Bible, prayer and us

Monday 30 August on Friday 3 September

Residential: £339, Non-residential: £226*

Please arrive by noon on Monday.  Course ends with lunch on Friday.

This annual Jewish-Christian study week and the study weekend that precedes it aim to take topics relevant to both Christians and Jews and consider them from both faith perspectives. Scriptural themes, as well as social and ethical issues, are explored. Academic rigour, combined with energetic discussion, study groups and socialising, fosters mutual appreciation of the treasures of each other’s cherished faith traditions.

The theme for this year’s study week will be ‘The Bible, Prayer and Us’. The Bible contains a wealth of prayers, both lengthy and concise, prayed by both men and women. Through studying these prayers from both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, we will consider their impact on the church and synagogue and their inspiration for us today.

Like the study weekend (27 to 29 August), the study week will be led by Rabbi Mark Solomon www.liberaljudaism.org and Sister Margaret Shepherd.

Rabbi Mark Solomon was appointed in 2009 as the first Interfaith Consultant for Liberal Judaism. He also works as lecturer in Talmud at Leo Baeck College, and minister of the Edinburgh Liberal Jewish Community. He is Co-Chairman of the London Society of Jews and Christians, and serves as Trustee of the Interfaith Alliance UK, the Scriptural Reasoning Society and the Ammerdown Centre.

Sr Margaret Shepherd is a Sister of Sion. Formerly the Director of The Council of Christians and Jews, she continues her involvement in Christian Jewish relations and teaches the Bible. She is a Member of the R.C. Bishops’ Committee for Catholic Jewish Relations and the Executive Committee for the London Society of Jews and Christians. She too is a Trustee of the Ammerdown Centre.

Vegetarian food and fish will be served throughout the week.

* A 5% discount will be given to people booking for both the Study Weekend ( Jewish - Christian Study Weekend 2010 27 to 29 August) and the Study Week. In addition, Ammerdown will be offering the special rate of £45 for Dinner Bed and Breakfast on the Sunday evening for those staying over in order to take part in the Study Week.
