It is suitable for students of all levels of experience, including complete beginners.

Pompi Parry, who has been teaching lacemaking for over 30 years, can teach a wide range of both traditional and contemporary  techniques so there is always something new for students to try. Alternatively, students can choose to work on an on-going project with Pompi’s help. In fact, Pompi likes to make contact with her students one month before the course to discuss the work they wish to do.

Two of Pompi’s specialities are Polychrome Blonde, a silk lace from Normandy, and Downton Lace, a traditional lace from Wiltshire, but Pompi can offer tuition on many other different techniques (please note, however, that Honiton, Withof and Duchess laces will not taught).

This will be primarily a practical course teaching various lacemaking techniques, but displays publications and discussion will be used to widen the lacemakers’ knowledge of both historical laces and current trends. Students will also be encouraged to display their own work.

Pompi gives lectures and teaches lacemaking in England and the USA has exhibited internationally and has demonstrated lacemaking in France and Japan. She travels extensively to study many different aspects of both the practical and historical sides of Lace, Dress and Textiles and in fact never comes back from her travels without something new and exciting to share with her students.

Students will provide their own Lacemaking equipment. However this can be provided for beginners by prior arrangement.
