A Beginners Workshop in Embossing Thin Metal

Join Dilys Fisher for the day as she guides you through this lovely old craft which is sadly rarely taught. The workshop will be aimed at complete beginners and all materials, tools and notebooks will be provided by Dilys.

Embossing is where pressure is put onto thin metal to make indentations which create a design.  This is often done using specialist tools but Dilys will show you how you can use ordinary household items to produce some stunning results.

You don’t need to worry about being able to draw as the day is structured around a selection of designs and examples provided by Dilys.

She will first guide the class through some basic methods and simple exercises which will produce a wonderful range of effects. The focus will then move to making a front cover for a notebook.

This will be a relaxing day where you quietly see shape and design develop from what was a simple flat sheet of thin metal. We will be using copper, aluminium and pewter. Note there will be no hammering or other noisy tools used!

* Students will be asked to contribute £8 on the day for materials and this will be paid direct to the tutor. Additional materials will be available to purchase to continue working at home on your own designs
