Lettering on Fabric Workshop

Josie Brown’s ‘Lettering on Pots, Glass and other Surfaces’ workshop was such a huge success in 2015 that participants pleaded with Josie to come back in 2016. Josie was happy to oblige and has chosen to focus this year’s workshop on ‘Lettering on Fabric’.

She writes: “This workshop will be suitable for beginners as well as calligraphers with some experience. An introduction to a suitable script will be followed by ways of modifying standard scripts and lettering for use on various suitable fabrics. There will be exploration into the pros and cons of which tools and mediums are best to use for particular fabrics and purposes, and then participants will focus on a project of their choice. These may be a banner or hanging, tablecloth, napkins, a calico bag, apron or tea towel - or even perhaps a fabric book? Colour and design will be discussed and some gilding can even be carried out, where appropriate.”

Josie is one of Ammerdown’s best loved tutors, thanks to her superb abilities as a teacher and artist. She has been a professional scribe, heraldic artist and illuminator for over thirty years, and has completed commissions for the academic, military, public and private sectors. She is also an accredited tutor at the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and currently teaches workshops and summer schools around the country.

*Special rates for accommodation prior to or after the course:

£40 for B&B
£50 for SB&B
