Chinese Brush Painting - Summer Flowers and Landscapes

Maggie Cross is one of our most popular tutors. This is not surprising: she has shown herself to be an excellent teacher as well as a gifted artist, and our guests have been amazed at what they managed to achieve in the space of a few days – even complete beginners.

This course, suitable for all levels of ability, will focus on summer flowers and landscapes, with Maggie providing demonstrations as well as one to one tuition. You will paint both traditional Chinese subjects as well as Western ones adapted to the Chinese style. Using Chinese materials and techniques you will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of styles, from free brushwork to the more detailed ‘meticulous’ style. Painting will be on paper or silk.

Maggie spent her childhood in Hong Kong, where she studied brush painting and also learnt to speak Cantonese and write Chinese characters. She is a member of The Chinese Brush Painters’ Society and the Society of Floral Painters. She regularly exhibits her work and also frequently lectures and teaches on the subject. She has published three books.

Maximum number 12, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Participants will be given a list of basic items to bring with them. Traditional brush painting materials will be available for loan or sale from the tutor.
