Chinese Brush Painting-Flowers and Birds

Maggie Cross introduced Chinese Brush Painting at Ammerdown in 2006 and was an immediate success. She has shown herself to be an excellent tutor as well as a gifted artist, and our guests have been amazed at what they managed to achieve in the space of a few days – even complete beginners.

This course, suitable for both beginners and improvers, will focus on flowers and birds - traditional Chinese as well as some English ones. Maggie will demonstrate using Chinese painting materials and techniques to produce paintings in both free style and more detailed, meticulous techniques. She will also explain some of the symbolism which plays an important part in this ancient art form.
There will be an opportunity for you to paint on paper or silk and back your work for display.

Maggie spent her childhood in Hong Kong, where she studied brush painting and also learnt to speak Cantonese and write Chinese characters. She is a member of the Chinese Brush Painters’ Society and the Society of Floral Painters. She regularly exhibits her work and also frequently lectures and teaches on the subject. She has also recently completed her third book. Her gifts as a tutor and painter are praised by all who work with her: “An exceptional tutor, and an inspiration to us all”; “Maggie is superb at accommodating the needs of students at different levels of ability”; Maggie’s work is magical and she is a natural encourager”.

Maximum number 10, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Participants will be given a list of basic items to bring with them. Traditional brush painting materials will also be available for loan or sale from the tutor.

N.B. Please note that Maggie will lead another Chinese Brush Painting at Ammerdown this year, from Monday 22 to Friday 26 September, this time on Autumn Landscapes.

Led by: Maggie Cross

Please arrive by 6pm on Monday. Course ends with lunch on Saturday.
