Bobbin Lace Making Workshop

This Summer School offers a rare opportunity for a time of total lace making indulgence in which like-minded students come together to share and extend their knowledge and bobbin lace skills in a relaxed but stimulating atmosphere. It is suitable for students of all levels of experience, including complete beginners.

Pompi Parry, who has been teaching lacemaking for over thirty years, can teach a wide range of both traditional and contemporary  techniques so there is always something new for students to try. Alternatively, students can choose to work on an ongoing project with Pompi’s help.

Two of Pompi’s specialities are Polychrome Blonde, a silk lace from Normandy, and Downton Lace, a traditional lace from Wiltshire, but Pompi can offer tuition on many other different techniques (please note, however, that Honiton, Withof and Duchess laces will not taught).

This will be primarily a practical course teaching various lace making techniques, but displays publications and discussion will be used to widen the lacemakers’ knowledge of both historical laces and current trends. Pompi gives lectures and teaches lacemaking in England and the USA, has exhibited internationally and has demonstrated lacemaking in France and Japan.

Students will be expected to provide their own Lacemaking equipment. However this can be provided for beginners by prior arrangement.

Led by: Pompi Parry
