An Introduction to Enamelling on Copper

Enamelling was introduced at Ammerdown in 2013 by expert enameller and tutor Dilys Fisher (rosymdesign@aol.com), and we all fell in love with it! What complete beginners succeeded in creating with Dilys’ help was simply astonishing. Here is what one of her ‘pupils’ wrote: “Dilys was such a wonderful tutor; her approach was that there were no mistakes - just new opportunities for learning! Once we had mastered the basics, Dilys helped us to achieve the work we wanted to do, even if the techniques were quite tricky at first for us beginners. I thoroughly enjoyed myself!”.

This ‘Taster Day’ will introduce you to a wonderful ancient craft that consists of applying coloured glass in the form of powders, chips, lumps, rods etc. to copper and firing in a kiln. Each firing is often less than two minutes so results are seen quickly. Expect stunning effects!

Dilys has been enamelling for over 20 years and belongs to the Guild of Enamellers. To begin with she focused on jewellery and later extended into other three dimensional works such as leaf sculptures, wall plaques and masks.

Please note that there is a maximum of 8 participants on this course to ensure Dilys can provide sufficient individual attention.

 * Cost: There will be an additional charge for material used during the day. It should be in the region of £15 but the final cost will depend on what each participant chooses to make.

Led by: Dilys Fisher

Please arrive by 9.30am for a 10am start. The day finishes at 4.30pm.
